Hi, my name is Victoria.
I’m 6 years old and live in Puerto Montt. When I was 20 months old, a pot with hot oil turned over me, burning the 28% of my body surface. The worst scars are on my face, arms and hands. I underwent two surgeries on my hands to be able to use them. I’m in rehabilitation treatment at COANIQUEM with physiatrists, dermatologists, occupational therapists and dermatologist that are taking care of my therapy.
They say I’ll need more surgeries as I grow up, but I’m confident I’ll get better every day.

Hi, my name is Bastián.
I’m 14 years old and live in Illapel, Coquimbo. Last year, my clothes caught flames because of an electric accident. My face, neck, arms, thorax and legs suffered burn injuries. I was first treated in a hospital in Santiago and then came to COANIQUEM for rehabilitation treatment. Doctors, therapists and psychologist are in charge of my treatment. I wear compression garments all over my body to prevent thickening of the scars. Sometimes the skin itches and I scratch a lot, so the nurses are taking care of the wounds I get. I hope to get well soon and I’m grateful to my family for their support and to COANIQUEM’s staff for taking care of me.

I’m in junior year and will turn 17 years old next month. The retractions of the scars on my chest are bothering me and the doctors suggest surgery, which is planned for July. I’ll have an intensive post operation therapy to treat the new scars, but I’m sure that everything will turn out well because I’m in the hands of a great team.

I’m 9 years old and come from Venezuela. I live with my family in Coquimbo, Chile since 2017. In May 2021, there was a fire at home while we were sleeping. I was severely burned and needed hospitalization. I underwent graft surgeries and unfortunately, the doctors had to amputate my right hand’s little finger . I came to COANIQUEM for rehabilitation treatment. We were told that this is the best place to recover from burns and it is true. I do not have to pay anything and there is a team of doctors, pshychologists and therapists taking care of me. There is also a residenceto stay at and a hospital school to continue studying while I am in treatment. I’m 14 years old and live in Frutillar, the Lakes District. When I was two years old I sat on a pot with hot water, burning 29% of my body surface. I have scars on the back, buttocks and legs and needed graft surgery on one leg. It has been a long rehabilitation treatment and I’m coming to COANIQUEM for physical therapy and sessions with the psychologist. The scars hurt when I stay sitted for a long time or when I make a sudden movement. The seurgeon is eveluating the best time for my next surgery. I’m in 8th grade, I do Good at school and I’d like to join the piano workshop and voleyball team.
