COANIQUEM has incorporated scientific research, experimental development and innovation into its institutional objectives, in order to obtain new scientific, technological and practical knowledge that allows burning prevention in children and adolescents, developing treatments with scientific evidence in its acute and rehabilitation stage.
One of its most interesting initiatives in this area has been an epidemiological research project financed by FONIS, CHILE, during 2012-2013. The results reveal that child burns were reduced in 46% in the last two decades thanks to better housing conditions and COANIQUEM’s prevention campaigns.
Hot objects became the main cause of burns in children, instead of hot liquids, like in developed countries.
